Looking at this picture feels so bittersweet. Christmas lunch getting ready to be laid out at the table. My father and my aunt still alive. Her corn pie in the lower left corner. A turkey breast from my uncle at the top. Still to come Mom’s Jamaican Rice and Peas with gravy and Plantains baked in Orange Juice. Ginger beer, sorrel, pastelles, punch de crème and of course my Aunt’s Black Cake would bring up the end. Often with a side of mom’s Brandy Butter.

This for me was family. Now it’s just her and I.

✨ September has been a month of reflection for me, both in the kitchen and in life. Between the busyness of daily routines and the challenges that come with caregiving, I found myself pausing often, asking what I am grateful for and what lessons I can carry forward.

One thing that stood out was how much joy this community continues to bring me.
