Looking at this picture feels so bittersweet. Christmas lunch getting ready to be laid out at the table. My father and my aunt still alive. Her corn pie in the lower left corner. A turkey breast from my uncle at the top. Still to come Mom’s Jamaican Rice and Peas with gravy and Plantains baked in Orange Juice. Ginger beer, sorrel, pastelles, punch de crème and of course my Aunt’s Black Cake would bring up the end. Often with a side of mom’s Brandy Butter.

This for me was family. Now it’s just her and I.
