Reader’s Question: II live in Sutton, Surrey, U.K. and I am having problems locating ‘Promasa’ yellow cornmeal. Can you advise me, if you know, of any market/delicatessen in the London area that I can purchase Promasa, for my Trini Christmas pastelles? I know it is the best because I used it in Florida when I lived there. Also poncha de creama/poncha crema, is it sold already made up in a bottle like eggnog and if you know of any outlet to purchase it in London, U.K.?

    Well you csn go to the areas where there is a high Caribbean population in London, Brixton, Hackney or Tottenham and check out the supermarkets there.

    Ridley Road Market in Hackney and Brixton Market are great for Caribbean stuff.

    A friend of mine is looking for Promasa too and I have word that there is a small supermarket nex to a Columbian restaurant in Shepherd's Bush that might have this. My guess is that that any south London market areas might have it, even though Trini's are not the majority, there must be something pretty much the same. Cornmeal is cornmeal and the names are just brand names, although it does seem to make quite a difference sometimes. Another friend says tht “The Colombian version is called AREPARINA, you may be able to get it inside the Brixton Market, there are also some other Colombian shops in Seven Sisters but I don't have precise directions. Another posible place is 'La Bodeguita' in Elephant and Castle.”

    There is also a Venezuelan version , I am not completely sure, but I think the name is something like P.A.N.
