BBM 2.0 – Jacques Pure Chocolate Hagelslag Granules

This was the last item in my Blogging by Mail package. I bet you thought that box was bottomless! I thought these ‘Jacques Pure Chocolate Hagelslag Granules‘ were just ‘sprinkles’ but they’re not! They melt in your mouth! (All the sprinkles I have ever tasted were firm, these are soft). I was very confused (and slightly grossed out) by the cover image which promoted eating it on buttered bread, something that Eva also advocated. I could not see the two tastes going together. After several minutes of pondering I figured I should give it a try. Generations of people couldn’t be wrong right? According to this site the Dutch eat 14 million kilos of hagelslag a year on bread! Well… I gave it a try… and can’t say I was won over. The two tastes really just don’t work together for me. Oddly enough I tried it on hot buttered arepas and quite liked that though, so maybe I’m just odd :) My favorite use by far though has been on pancakes, especially after covering the pancakes with jam :D Now -that’s- the yum! :) Next stop for these ‘granules’… CUPCAKES!! stay tuned :D

so, it’s not like nutella then? ;-) bread and nutella is good, bread and chocolate is good, but I’d probably skip the butter. Although…I did finally learn the joys of toast butter and jam!

I am so delighted that you liked everything in the parcel! It has been great fun reading your thoughts about each item. I have tried to guess which was your favourite in the parcel, but am not quite sure.

I too prefer hagelslag with pancakes or ice cream – not on sandwiches/toast. There is a big difference between hagelslag (chocolate granules) and nutella – I used to eat nutella sandwiches often in my teens!

I will continue to read your blog, which was unknown to me before BBM – and will try some Trinidadian recipes soon! :)

    Have fun!

Wonderful Eva! So glad you are still reading! I made the tagliatelle today and it was so wonderful!!! :D Funny that you asked about what was my favorite thing… you are right I don’t think I have compared the items per se, I tried to take each on its own merit :) Does that make sense? :) I could have had more of everything so I know that means I loved them all !!
